Focus on sustainability

At PREMIND®BIOTICS, we want to make a difference on the sustainability agenda. We don't claim to be perfect, but we're constantly working to optimize our value chain, recognizing that we must all contribute to a sustainable planet. That's why we work with the UN's 17 Sustainable Development Goals as a tool for continuous improvement.

Compostable packaging

In our industry, packaging waste is incredibly large. Hundreds of thousands of plastic pill bottles are thrown away every year. Fortunately, many companies today use packaging made from recyclable materials, but unfortunately this doesn't mean it actually gets recycled.

We've therefore chosen to take a completely different approach. We've designed what we think is a beautiful glass jar. Our hope is that you'll see the possibilities in reusing the jar – for example, for your spice rack, loose change, children's beads, and of course for refilling with new capsules. We also offer refill pouches with capsules, so you don't need to buy a new jar.

Most refill products are made from plastic, but ours are made from compostable material, making them part of a completely circular process. In principle, you could bury the refill pouches in your garden and let them be absorbed as part of nature's cycle.

The refill pouches are made from kraft paper, which is a 100% biodegradable natural product. The paper is made from natural materials. The pulp is made from long virgin fibers of maritime pine and is not bleached to ensure minimal chemical treatment.

Kraft paper decomposes completely naturally. Like leaves from trees, kraft paper breaks down naturally within a few weeks and returns to its original form of cellulose fibers, which can be fully assimilated into its original natural environment without any negative impact on nature or human health.

The refill pouches also contain Polylactic Acid (PLA). PLA is used as a natural substitute for oil-based plastics and polyester products. PLA is derived from plants and is also a renewable resource.

The concept behind our packaging policy is therefore twofold: to extend the life of the packaging by having customers reuse the jars, and to allow the refill pouches to be part of a natural cycle.

When you buy our refill pouches, you're doing both yourself and the environment a favor. In addition to buying a sustainable product, we've also chosen to make refill products cheaper than buying a new jar each time. You can get all our products in sustainable refill pouches.

Clean products are sustainable products

Many medications and supplements are filled with chemicals, preservatives, and additives. This is not only bad for your health, but what most people don't consider is that it's also harmful to the environment. All the unwanted substances and chemicals that your body doesn't absorb end up in the wastewater system when you use the toilet. Since most Danish water treatment facilities aren't designed to break down chemicals, they eventually end up in nature.

For your health and the environment's sake, we only use ingredients without artificial additives. Like our packaging approach, raw materials and production are areas where we continuously work to minimize our environmental impact. That's why one of the Sustainable Development Goals we focus on is "Goal 12: Responsible Consumption and Production."

How can you contribute to sustainability?

First and foremost, you should always consider your impact as a consumer.

Regarding PREMIND®BIOTICS, you can reuse our beautiful glass jars and purchase capsules in refill pouches instead of new jars.

UN Sustainable Development Goals

PREMIND ® BIOTICS and the 17 Sustainable Development Goals

You're probably familiar with the UN's 17 Sustainable Development Goals. The 17 Goals were adopted by world leaders in 2015 and set ambitious targets for social and environmental progress, particularly toward 2030.

The Sustainable Development Goals aren't just something governments must live up to – it's a responsibility we all must embrace, you and I, and companies have a huge responsibility as well. That's why we've chosen to use the Sustainable Development Goals as a strategic tool that has real impact on our decision-making processes.

We've chosen to start by focusing on three goals. Over time, as we improve, we may expand to include more. Below you can see the goals we've chosen to focus on. You can work with the Sustainable Development Goals in many ways, so we also choose to adapt them to our daily operations, rather than working rigidly through all 169 sub-targets that exist under the 17 main goals.

Goal 3. Health and well-being

Health and well-being come naturally to us and are therefore an obvious goal to work with. Specifically, we carefully examine the raw materials we use, and in this regard, the goal also serves as a guideline and reminder when we evaluate new ingredients and how they're produced. Since several of our ingredients come from regions like Asia, where working conditions don't necessarily meet the same standards as in Denmark, health and well-being can also relate to local conditions – keeping these in mind when choosing suppliers.

Goal 12. Responsible consumption and production

Goal 12 is a focus area we've invested and continue to invest significant effort in. For example, our entire sustainable packaging policy is centered around responsible consumption and production.

A natural focus can also be making even greater demands on manufacturing itself – for instance, saving energy to reduce CO2 emissions and reducing water consumption.

Goal 17. Partnerships for action

Partnerships can take many forms. These include organizations that monitor working conditions in countries where we source ingredients, researchers we collaborate with, or designers who can make our packaging even more sustainable. It could also include the influencers we use to promote our products. Partnerships for the Goals means, first and foremost, that we choose partners who share our values regarding the sustainability agenda.
